There are many types of truffles. One of the most important ones is the white truffle, or Tuber magnatum, which is mainly found in the Piedmont region of northern Italy, as well as in areas of Croatia, Serbia, and France. Its scent is distinct and it is often used in high-end cuisine. Another precious variety is the black truffle, or Tuber melanosporum. It is mainly produced in the Perigord region of France, but is also found in Italy, Spain, and some other countries. There are also summer black truffles (Tuber Aestivum Vittadini) with a delicate smell and winter black truffles (Tuber Brumale Vittadini) which are known for their strong lasting fragrance. Also, the bianchetto truffle (Tuber Borchii Vittadini) has an odor that is weak at first but later smells strongly of garlic.
